Charter specialist scores in UAE's Gulf cup win

Bahrain Airport had its busiest day since the Grand Prix last year when thousands of UAE nationals flew the short hop across the Gulf to watch the national football side win the Gulf Cup against Iraq in a tight game that went to extra time.

Scheduled flights were packed. Abu Dhabi Airport gave free parking to all travellers to the game – and for more than 3,000 of the travelling fans, global aircraft charter specialist Chapman Freeborn was the other star of the day as it organised the flights to and from the game – even accounting for the extra time
The company’s Dubai office successfully arranged 15 separate aircraft charters to transport nearly 3000 fans to Friday’s final, held at the National Stadium in Riffa.
The company showcased its teamwork and operational excellence in coordinating the flights from Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Abu Dhabi Al Bateen and Al Ain - with staff present at the departure airports and in Bahrain to ensure a smooth operation for the high-profile event.
A range of aircraft types were used for the flights to Manama - including A330, A340, B737-300, B737-400 and DC-9 types.
Elated supporters of the side known as Al Abyad (The Whites) enjoyed the return journey to the UAE having seen their side secure the title for only the second time in the tournament’s history.
Sandra Gilles, senior manager for passenger charters at Chapman Freeborn, said: “As a UAE-based company we’re delighted to have seen the national team win the competition and feel honoured that we were able to play a part in making the event such a success.”
