Cairo flights remain unaffected by street battles
Despite the current crisis in Cairo with today's military intervention the country's minister for civil aviation , Abdel Aziz Fadeld, said that air traffic is continuing as normal.
In a statement this afternoon, the minister said that: “All Egyptian Airports function normally and all flights are being operated according to schedule both in departure and arrival”. He said: “There are 350 flights scheduled today from Cairo and the roads to Cairo airport are open and closely monitored by the police. We have not received any requests to evacuate any foreign communities from Cairo or elsewhere”.
A spokesman for national carrier EgyptAir said that the airline will operate 124 flights today out of Cairo, and said all 65 flights scheduled before 13:30 Cairo local time had left punctually and that all later flights were also expected to leave on time.
