Malaysia To Fully Open Borders In April
Malaysia will fully open its borders to vaccinated travelers starting April 1, becoming one of the first Southeast Asia nations to allow passengers to enter the country without quarantine. Passengers must still undergo a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test two days before departure and a rapid test upon arrival.

Ryanair Cancels 19 Lisbon Routes After Slots Row
Ryanair said it is canceling 19 routes from Lisbon Airport (LIS) this summer after Portugal’s government refused to release slots that are being made available by TAP Air Portugal as a condition of its state-backed restructure. The Irish airline claimed the move will result in 950,000 fewer seats and 5,000 fewer flights during the summer 2022 season.

Airbus Cuts 20 Aircraft From A330neo Orderbook
Airbus has cut half of a firm order for 40 A330-900s placed by an undisclosed customer, believed to be HNA Group, from its backlog.The latest issue of Airbus’ orders and deliveries dataset, published to include all transactions until the end of February, lists just 20 A330-900s for the undisclosed customer.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi Expands East With Sri Lanka Entry
Sri Lanka will become the first South Asian country to be served by Wizz Air Abu Dhabi as the airline begins to look further east for growth.The carrier, a joint venture between the Hungarian ULCC and Abu Dhabi state holding company ADQ, will begin flying to the town of Mattala in the south of Sri Lanka from June 1.

Cathay Posts Half-Year Profit Despite Latest Pandemic Challenges
Cathay Pacific managed a return to profit for the second half (H2) of 2021, although this hard-won progress is under threat in the early months of 2022 due to stricter COVID-19 regulations in Hong Kong.The Cathay Group reported an H2 net profit of HK$2 billion ($255 million).

DHL Orders Six Boeing 777Fs Amid Flurry Of Freight Activity
Cargo activity is continuing to boom despite slower January growth, with DHL Express placing an order for six additional Boeing 777Fs, Air Transport Services Group (ATSG) inducting its first A321 conversion and Ethiopian Airlines agreeing to a new multimodal air-sea partnership with two companies in Djibouti.

CAE To Build Training Devices For Joby’s eVTOL
Training systems provider CAE has added another advanced-air-mobility startup to its customer ranks with an agreement to develop the flight-simulation training devices for Joby Aviation’s electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing (eVTOL) air taxi. Joby joins a customer list that includes eVTOL developers Volocopter and Beta Technologies.

With 15 years of experience with hydrogen propulsion over six generations of fuel-cell powertrain, Germany’s H2Fly is preparing to take the next steps: flying on liquid hydrogen and moving up to a 40-seat regional airliner. H2Fly’s test aircraft, the HY4, is being prepared for long-range flights on gaseous hydrogen before being modified to liquid hydrogen storage as a precursor to developing a hydrogen-electric-powered version of the D328eco regional turboprop with manufacturer Deutsche Aircraft.

Avianca Places Order For Over 80 A320neos
Colombia’s largest airline Avianca has ordered 88 Airbus A320neos with purchase options for 50 additional aircraft. Avianca has placed the order after emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late 2021. The airline said the aircraft would be incorporated into its fleet between 2025 and 2031

The number of Western aerospace companies cutting off support for Russian and Belarusian customers continues to increase, with conglomerate Raytheon, training specialist CAE and Honeywell joining a list that includes major airframe and engine manufacturers.

Spirit AeroSystems To Make eVTOL CityAirbus’ Wings
Airbus is continuing to build the industrial team for the CityAirbus NextGen electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing (eVTOL) aircraft by partnering with Spirit AeroSystems to design and manufacture the multi-copter’s wings.Airbus, which revealed the updated CityAirbus design in September 2021, is targeting first flight in 2023 and certification by 2025.
