Finnair Signs $192M SAF Deal As IATA Pushes Government Incentives

Finnair has agreed to take 7 million gal. of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) annually from Colorado-based renewable fuels producer Gevo, as part of a wider 200 million gal. per year commitment by the Oneworld alliance. The Finnair-Gevo agreement will start in 2027 and will last five years, with an estimated total value of $192 million. This joins an existing Finnair agreement to acquire 17.5 million gal. of SAF from Aemetis, which will be delivered in 2025-2032. Credit: Finnair

Turkish Airlines Mulls Nonstop Australia Flights, Regional Fleet Pick

Turkish Airlines is evaluating whether to use Airbus A350-1000XWB or Boeing 777X aircraft for nonstop services to Australia and is nearing a decision on 30 regional aircraft. The airline already operates 777-300ERs, as well as A350-900s. “But we might go for an additional version, [such as] the A350-1000XWB for ultra-long-range services from Istanbul to Sydney and Melbourne,” Turkish Airlines Chairman Ahmet Bolat told Aviation Daily on the sidelines of the IATA annual general meeting in Doha. “Australia is the last continent which Turkish Airlines is not flying to.” Credit: Airbus

European Commission Urges Single European Sky Progress

European Commission (EC) executives have urged progress on the long-awaited Single European Sky reforms that should help ease airspace congestion and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, as well as airline costs. “I think it is essential to deliver the SES 2+,” EC Director General for Mobility and Transport Henrik Hololei told Aviation Daily in an interview at the World ATM Congress in Madrid. Regional aircraft lessor Elix Aviation has merged with ADARE Aviation Capital, with both companies coming together under a new “Abelo” brand. “The merged companies will operate as Abelo, integrating Elix Aviation’s platform and turboprop portfolio with the management expertise of ADARE Aviation Capital,” the companies said. A RED Air Boeing MD-82 suffered a nose-gear collapse at Miami International Airport, skidding and catching fire, causing substantial damage to the airframe. IATA, ACI Again Clash Over Airport Charges

Airports Council International (ACI) World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira has called for “collaboration and cooperation” between all aviation stakeholders following a renewed attack by IATA Director General Willie Walsh on airports for raising infrastructure charges.
