U.S. carriers have chalked up a second profitable quarter in a row. The first three months started 2022 with a loss as the omicron coronavirus variant plowed its way through the U.S. citizenry. But commercial aviation in the U.S. picked up and showed historic highs for operational revenue in the following two quarters ($75 billion each)—figures surpassing the same periods in 2019. Net results in both the second (Q2) and third (Q3) quarters of 2022 came to $2.9 billion for all U.S. carriers combined, including both passenger and cargo specialists.
