German aerospace center DLR has showcased its research into sustainable aircraft with the unveiling of several concepts at the Aero Friedrichshafen general-aviation show running through April 22 in Germany.

Austro Engine, sister company of Diamond Aircraft Industries, is cooperating with the Austrian Research Promotion Agency to demonstrate a piston aeroengine that runs on a combination of kerosene and hydrogen.

United Airlines believes the current strong domestic demand in the U.S. will hold, saying year-on-year revenue comparisons for the 2023 second quarter (Q2) are difficult given the “record” domestic revenue the airline posted in Q2 2022. 

The central premise of the burgeoning regional air mobility (RAM) movement is that bringing down airline unit costs through more efficient electrified propulsion could revitalize point-to-point travel to underused airports, making them more accessible to far-flung and underserved populations. 

A synthetic fuel is formed from CO₂—typically captured on an industrial site—and hydrogen, ideally produced with renewable electricity for the electrolysis process.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has reauthorized Qantas and Jetstar’s continued coordination between two Asia-based affiliates—Jetstar Asia and Jetstar Japan—for another five years.
