Antonov ban lifted by the GCAA

The General Civil Aviation Authority has lifted the temporary restriction on the Soviet-built and designed Antonov An-12 turboprop it imposed in January this year. The type will once again be able to operate out of the UAE.

Director general of the GCAA Saif Mohammed al Suwaidi said: “We have sent a release letter to the industry and to civil aviation departments in the Emirates releasing this aircraft to operate in the UAE with conditions.”

The conditions include operators presenting a letter of certification from the manufacturer based in Ukraine attesting to each aircraft’s airworthiness.
