Cricket legend Brian Lara has told World Routes of his passion for sports tourism in his home country of Trinidad and Tobago. The former West Indies batsman is now an ambassador for Trinidad and Tobago and travels the globe to promote his homeland.
At a ‘Routes Talks Tourism’ meeting at the 18th World Route Development Forum, in Abu Dhabi, he said: “Tourism and sports tourism are very special to me. I believe that Trinidad and Tobago should be promoted to the world. “We have a country that people will love. When my friends come, they love it.”
Lara told World Routes that the country had a lot of sporting infrastructure in place. The country has previously hosted the U17 Football World Cup, he added.
He added that the country’s biggest asset was its people, whom he said were “extremely friendly”, adding: “When you meet someone, it is as if they have known you 20 years.”
Trinidad and Tobago's permanent secretary for tourism, Juliana Johan-Boodram, said: “We want to tell the world we’re here and open for business. We are keen to form alliances with other airports and airlines.
“We want visitors to come to our shores. With Trinidad and Tobago you get two for the price of one. You get Trinidad and you get Tobago. They are very different from each other butthey are both a lot of fun.”
