Wizz to enter Latvian market

Hungarian low cost carrier Wizz Air has announced new services to the Latvian capital of Riga (RIX). From March 28th 2010, Wizz will operate three new destinations into Riga, London Luton, Oslo Torp and Turku. Each of the three new routes will be operated on a 3x weekly basis. There is no current scheduled services to London Luton or Oslo, however Air Baltic does operate a daily service betwwen Riga and Turku.

It will remain to be seen how many routes that Wizz will operate in Riga and if indeed they establish a based presence in the Latvian capital.

Air Baltic, is by far and away the dominant carrier in Riga, operating 916 of 1216 weekly services, giving it a 75% market share.

Ryanair is the second largest carrier in Riga, but does not have a based presence at the airport.
