What’s On The Horizon For: Noida International Airport
Expected to commence commercial operations by April 2025, the new greenfield airport in the Delhi-National Capital Region will have the capacity to process traffic of 12 million passengers within its first phase.
Developed by Zurich Airport International, DXN aims to deliver a blend of Indian hospitality and Swiss efficiency. Currently in the final stages of construction, the airport plans to file its aerodrome license application by the end of 2024, remaining on schedule for its operational launch.
Designed to meet the needs of its airline partners, particularly India’s major domestic carriers, DXN has prioritized engagement with potential operators throughout its development. This collaborative approach ensures that the airport will provide a high-quality experience tailored to the demands of the rapidly growing aviation sector.
“Developing a greenfield airport, we’ve had the opportunity and the privilege to make sustainability a priority from day one,” CEO Christoph Schnellmann said. “Early in the development process we made a commitment to design an airport that can operate on a net zero emissions basis a few years after commercial airport operations begin.”
Strategically located in the expanding Delhi-National Capital Region, DXN is expected to drive significant economic development by enhancing regional connectivity and supporting residential and industrial growth. Schnellmann noted, “The airport will play a critical role in anchoring further development across the region.”
Anticipating substantial growth in domestic, transfer, and international traffic, the airport’s infrastructure is designed to scale. Upon completion of its fourth phase, DXN will have the capacity to handle up to 70 million passengers annually.
Participating in route development discussions at Routes World 2024, Schnellmann emphasized the importance of building partnerships with both domestic and international airlines. “This is a valuable opportunity to connect with carriers and explore how we can support their growth in India,” he said.
