What’s On The Horizon For: Hermes Airports

Speaking to Routes in Aarhus during Routes Europe 2024 Hermes Airports, the operator of Larnaka and Pafos airports in Cyprus, discussed its recent passenger records and the plan for growth.

2023 was a record-breaking year for Hermes Airports having exceeded 11.6 million passengers, marking a total recovery since the pandemic. Serving over 150 routes from 55 airlines, Hermes noted its recent growth in new markets such as France and Italy, and expanded services in existing markets including Germany and Poland.

Speaking at Routes Europe 2024 Maria Kouroupi, director of aviation development, marketing and communication at Hermes Airports, told Routes its short-term goal is to fill gaps in unserved route opportunities across European capitals such as Madrid, Lisbon, and Brussels.

More from Hermes Airports

Developments are already underway to help address a seasonal imbalance in visitors to Cyprus with the aim of having as many year-round operations as possible. Hermes Airports’ winter traffic has significantly improved in the last five years now contributing 26% of the total. With the goal to increase this to 30-35%, Kouroupi said: “We believe Cyprus has a year-round product and we are working with our tourism partners to promote Cyprus as a destination and the experiences on offer.”

With recent route success and continued confidence from airlines, Hermes Airports also believes now is the time to work towards long-haul operations. Looking at opportunities both east and west of the island, the airport operator believes it has achievable objectives in the pipeline.

Expanding awareness of recent success and route opportunities, Hermes Airports uploads potential services and latest developments to its Routes 360 profile
