Spirit adds 5th Colombian route

Low Cost operator, Spirit Airlines has announced that it will add a new 3x weekly service from its base in Fort Lauderdale, to Barranquilla, Colombia.

The new route will be effective from July 29th and will be operated with A319 equipment. Barranquilla will be the fifth route in Colombia for the Fort Lauderdale based carrier. Its weekly schedule to Colombia is currently as follows

• Armenia 2x weekly
• Bogota 7x weekly
• Cartagena 4x weekly
• Medellin 7x weekly

The route will be attractive to VFR and leisure flows. Spirit will aim to capture the large traffic flows from Florida to Colombia. Between March 09-10, nearly 1 million pax flew from the sunshine state to Colombia (two way) according to IATA BSP data (Airport IS)
