Sibiu International Airport Targets Route Expansion Across European Capitals
Sibiu International Airport (SBZ), located in Romania’s Transylvania region, is aiming to expand its route network across European capitals to better serve its extended catchment area of over 2.5 million people. Currently, the airport connects to 12 European destinations with three airline partners.
Among its most popular routes are London Luton (LTN), Munich, and Vienna, which provide access to key European hubs and enable global connections for travelers from southern Transylvania.
Wizz Air, SBZ’s leading airline partner, has significantly grown its presence at the airport in recent years, adding new routes and increasing frequencies on existing services, including flights to LTN.
In addition to its network ambitions, SBZ has focused on sustainability initiatives, achieving Level 1 Airport Carbon Accreditation and exploring the use of solar panels to generate renewable energy. These efforts align with the airport’s broader mission to support environmentally conscious operations.
To attract new airline partnerships and increase connectivity, SBZ has highlighted several unserved route opportunities on its Routes 360 profile.
