As part of their summer 2017 schedule, Lufthansa will serve Ireland’s Shannon Airport to their Frankfurt hub once weekly utilising Airbus A321 aircraft. The service is due to begin 29 April 2017.
The seasonal route will give passengers from Shannon Airport an array of connection choices as Frankfurt is one of the most important hubs in Europe. Traffic originating in Shannon will have the option to fly as far afield as Bogota, Colombia; Cape Town, South Africa and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Andreas Köster, senior director sales UK, Ireland and Iceland, Lufthansa group commented: "We are very happy to announce this new non-stop flight directly to the heart of Germany. Customers from the Western part of Ireland will travel to Frankfurt in just a bit more than two hours. The new flight will offer a smooth connection between our Frankfurt hub and some intercontinental destinations such as Johannesburg, Hong Kong, Sao Paulo or Singapore.”
Shannon Airport will also welcome Scandinavian Airlines next summer with the carrier due to start service to Stockholm-Arlanda on 1 August 2017.
The Irish Airport are in a period of significant growth, with passenger numbers up 4.6 percent for 2015 to 1,714,872.2014 saw a 13.8 percent rise in passenger figures, the airport’s first year of double digit growth since 2006.
