Routes Tourism Mediterranean Provides Food for Thought

Routes Tourism Mediterranean, held in Antalya, Turkey, from the 13th to 15th of February, attracted nearly 300 delegates and saw increased involvement from the tourism sector, including tourism authorities, tour operators and suppliers such as hotels.

The Welcome Reception saw a breathtaking display of the ‘Fire of Anatolia’, a dance and music ensemble involving over 60 performers, just one of many opportunities during the event to experience authentic Turkish culture. The Gala Dinner followed in these footsteps, with a lavish meal and various performances really exemplifying the hospitality for which Turkey is so well known.

With a briefing from Airport Strategy & Marketing Ltd, official consultants at Routes, exploring how stakeholder management can be used to achieve a competitive advantage, and Destination Briefings from key tourism professionals, including government Ministers and their representatives from Greece, Croatia and Turkey, Routes Tourism Mediterranean provided the ideal platform through which to discuss and explore the vital interdependence between the aviation and tourism industries. Presentations from the Destination Briefings can be seen HERE.

World Routes, being held this year in Berlin, Germany, from the 2nd to the 4th of October, will provide a platform through which delegates attending Routes Tourism Mediterranean will be able to continue and further discussions, as well as embark on new ones and meet the route development community from across the globe.

At Routes Tourism Mediterranean a number of new agreements were made and new routes discussed. For instance, Paxport signed an agreement to continue their relationship with Sky Airlines, whilst the following carriers and tour operators discussed expanding operations into Turkey, and particularly Antalya: Malev, Chamwings, Eli Gasht, SmartWings, Aeroflot and Lufthansa Italia.
