The latest airline route news, featuring network changes, schedule alterations, codeshares and interline agreements.
Sept. 18
British Airways will open a three-leg route that will add two destinations in Tanzania to its network next year. The carrier will fly a London Gatwick-Kilimanjaro-Zanzibar service starting May 29, 2027. The route will be operated 3X-weekly on a seasonal basis through Oct. 31, 2027.
Riyadh Air has opened flights between Riyadh and Manchester. The 3X-weekly route marks the Saudi carrier’s second service to the UK following the launch of a Riyadh-London Heathrow route in June.
Air China and Turkish Airlines have expanded their codeshare agreement. Under the new terms, Turkish Airlines’ code will be placed on Air China flights from Beijing to Chinese destinations Chongqing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Qingdao and Xiamen. Air China’s code will be placed on Turkish Airlines’ flights from Istanbul to Accra, Algiers, Ankara, Cancun, Dar es Salaam, Lagos, Marrakesh, Mexico City and Tunis.
South Korean LCC Jin Air has launched service between Seoul Incheon International Airport and Yichang, China. Flights will be operated 2X-weekly initially, rising to 4X-weekly on Oct. 11.
Canadian cargo carrier Cargojet will add a second weekly freighter flight to Liege, Belgium, on Sept. 23. The added flight will take place on Wednesdays on a Hamilton-Halifax-Liege-Hamilton routing. The service will be operated with a Boeing 767 freighter.
Sept. 17
Air Canada is extending its winter seasonal routes from Canada to Guatemala City to year-round service. The airline operated service between Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) and La Aurora International Airport (GUA) last winter and planned to resume the route on Nov. 29 through Feb. 27, 2027. It will now continue flying the YUL-GUA route on its 2027 summer schedule. The airline is scheduled to operate a peak of 2,360 two-way weekly seats on the route in November, lowering to 1,770 two-way weekly seats planned from Nov. 29 through Feb. 27, according to OAG Schedules Analyser data. Air Canada is also set to launch service between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and GUA on Nov. 29, operating 590 two-way weekly seats on the route through Feb. 27, 2027. The YYZ-GUA service has also been added to the 2027 summer schedule.
Air Serbia opened service between Belgrade and Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands. The carrier will operate the route to the largest island in the archipelago 2X-weekly.
FlyDubai said it has signed interline agreements with both Air India and Uzbekistan Airways to provide its passengers with access to “more than 80 additional destinations.”
U.S. low-cost carrier Breeze Airways will launch service between Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, and West Palm Beach, Florida, from Dec. 18. The route will be operated on a seasonal basis 2X-weekly.
Sept. 16
Frontier Airlines will launch service from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to three destinations in Colombia in December, marking the U.S. carrier’s first-ever routes to South America. Frontier will kick off daily service between MCO and Medellin on Dec. 10. Daily flights between MCO and Bogota will commence on Dec. 14. The airline will open 1X-weekly service between MCO and Cartagena on Dec. 19.
FlyDubai will launch service between Dubai and Pokhara, Nepal, on Sept. 23. The destination will become the second in Nepal served by the airline, which already flies to Kathmandu.
Canada and Tunisia updated and expanded their air services agreement, according to Transport Canada. Under the new terms, each country is allocated up to seven weekly passenger flights to the other country, up from four each previously, with airlines now able to access all points in the other country rather than being limited to a single destination. The agreement also introduced unlimited weekly freighter flights between the countries. Under previous terms, there were no cargo flight rights. Canada and Tunisia originally signed an air services accord in 2010. The last negotiated expansion occurred in 2019.
Drukair, the national carrier of Bhutan, said it will extend its suspension of service to Dubai through February 2027. The airline cited the “current geopolitical situation” for the decision.
Sept. 15
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) CEO Thomas Woldbye said the number of incumbent and prospective airlines seeking slots at the crowded hub exceeds 40. “Three-quarters of proposed new routes would provide vital long-haul links, but Heathrow's ability to accommodate them is constrained without expansion,” he said. Woldbye has long pushed for LHR’s planned third runway, citing that airlines cannot secure slots because the existing runways are full.
Saudia will open service between Riyadh and Muscat, Oman, from Oct. 27. Flights will be operated 3X-weekly.
European LCC Wizz Air has resumed service to Amman, Jordan, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It plans to restart flights to Abu Dhabi and Dubai on Oct. 25. The airline said it will “progressively restore 12 routes and 49 weekly services to Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia over the winter season,” providing direct service to Middle East destinations from nine European cities. Flights already restored include service to Amman from Budapest, and to Jeddah from Budapest, Milan and Rome.
Royal Jordanian Airlines launched 2X-weekly service between Aqaba and Abu Dhabi. The carrier said it now operates 40 weekly flights between Jordan and the UAE, including 21X-weekly service between Amman and Dubai.
Sept. 14
China Eastern Airlines has opened service between Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN). Flights will operate 3X-weekly. China Eastern previously flew the PVG-ARN route from 2018 to 2020, before suspending the service during the pandemic.
Frontier Airlines has launched service between Boise Airport (BOI) in Idaho and Las Vegas. The carrier will operate the route 4X-weekly. The service marks the carrier’s second route at BOI. Frontier started flights between BOI and its Denver, Colorado, base in 2025.
Turkish cargo carrier MNG Airlines and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) have signed a memorandum of understanding to “deepen cooperation” and grow service to the airport. Istanbul-based MNG currently operates freighter flights eight to 10 times per week between Turkey and Hong Kong. The carrier “aims to increase flight frequencies [to meet] the robust growth in demand,” HKG said.
Ryanair said it will open three new routes from Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) for its 2026-27 winter schedule as it adds a Boeing 737 to its aircraft base at the airport. New destinations served from ARN on the upcoming schedule include Rabat, Morocco, and Polish cities Warsaw and Wroclaw.
