ROUTES EUROPE: Jet2.com to Expand at East Midlands and Edinburgh

UK low-fare airline Jet2.com is to expand its network from its bases at East Midlands and Edinburgh next summer, according to latest schedule information from the company. The company will add two new routes and increase frequency on four others from East Midlands and will add a single new route from Edinburgh and boost flights on its existing link to Malaga from three to four flights per week.

At East Midlands a three times weekly service to Murcia will be added on May 3, while the following day a five times weekly connection to Malaga will launch. An additional two weekly flights will also be provided to Alicante, Faro (increasing to five flights per week on each route) and Palma de Mallorca (up to six), while a third weekly link is also being provided to Tenerife.

Meanwhile, at Edinburgh Jet2.com will launch a three times weekly flight to Alicante from March 29, 2012, adding a fourth rotation from April 16. The additional flight to Malaga will also be introduced with effect from March 30.

The market for travel between the UK and Spain is huge and an estimated 21.5 million O&D passengers travelled on scheduled routes in the past year. Jet2.com held a 5.5 per cent share of this traffic in the past year after carrying approximately 1.1 million passengers between the two countries.
