ROUTES EUROPE: Finnair Adds Capacity to Hong Kong

As Oneworld alliance member Finnair prepares for the launch of its new Helsinki – Singapore flight on May 30, the Nordic carrier has confirmed it will also add capacity to Hong Kong from the same date. The airline will offer an additional five weekly rotations between May 30 and October 9, increasing from a daily schedule to 12 a week and bringing its total number of weekly flights into Asia to 74.

“Our Asian strategy is working well – the addition of the flights and the new Singapore route reflects the continual growth of via-travel directed towards Asia,” said Mika Perho, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Finnair.

Finnair carried an estimated 1.2 million O&D passengers between Europe and Asia in the past year, up 10.1 per cent on the previous 12 months. The Importance of its ‘via Helsinki’ hub concept is clear when you look in greater detail at the statistics and discover that just 26.8 per cent of these passengers began or ended their journey at Helsinki. Finnair’s most successful routes into Asia in terms of traffic from Helsinki are Bangkok (around 82,000 O&D passengers), Osaka Kansai International (43,000 passengers) and Beijing Capital International (38,000 passengers).
