ROUTES CIS: Welcome to Ekaterinburg as Routes Debuts in Russia

A very warm welcome to all delegates at this year’s Routes CIS conference, in Ekaterinburg, an historic city in Russia. This part of the world is home to one of the most restrictive markets in terms of air service agreements and thus a challenging market for carriers to do business as many bilateral remain in place from the days of the former Soviet Union when limited operators were provided traffic rights in and out of the country.

Just under 50 airline delegates representing 22 airlines from within the Russian Federation, the CIS and wider European, Middle East, African and Asian markets are due to attend the event which is taking place at Angelo Airport Hotel and Ekaterinburg Koltsovo International Airport. These representatives will meet with over 60 airport delegates representing 36 different airports over the space of three days through structured and more informal meetings. Alongside the strong presence from region other respected international brands such as China Southern Airlines, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Ryanair will certainly make this a high quality event with senior aviation professionals and real decision-makers.

Like all of our events the formalities will open with the Routes CIS Strategy Forum. This will see opening remarks from Mr Evgeny Chudnovsky, Chief Executive Officer of Ekaterinburg’s Koltsovo International Airport and a presentation on Air Transport Traffic in Russia by Ms Marina Bukalova, Vice President of TCH Russia. A panel of leading industry experts will then take part in a number of moderator led discussions which will address issues affecting aviation and route development across the region. Sessions will cover accessing the CIS market, attracting international tourists to the CIS and airport development in the CIS.

“I consider it a great honour for Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport to be the host of one of the world’s leading aviation forums. Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport offers the perfect platform to do business and conduct international negotiations, while showcasing the state-of-the-art airport facilities and infrastructure available here and in the region,” said Evgeniy Kuyvashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk region. “Our aim is that the gateway to the Urals contributes in an even greater way to wider international cooperation, development of tourism, and foreign economic affairs.”

“Our top priority is to seek further cooperation with CIS countries to continue building on the pillars of economic development in our region using expanded international partnerships. Our foreign policy encourages the Sverdlovsk region to expand economic alliances with all the CIS countries and also focus on a variety of other humanitarian activities,” he added.
