Delegates that arrived early in the Russian city of Ekaterinburg were given the opportunity yesterday to explore the local surroundings in a couple of organised tours by our host Ekaterinburg Klotsovo Airport. To enable delegates to get a feel of a city rich in history and culture on the border of Europe and Asia and dubbed Russia’s Third Capital’, a special three hour bus tour today provides the chance to view the main sights, while a longer seven hour full-day excursion yesterday took in The cradle of the Demidovs Empire – Nevyansk.
The three hour city tour towill take delegates through Ekaterinburg’s historic sites: the Historical Square, the 18th century Dam, Cathedral on the Blood and the fabulous merchants’ houses of ‘the gold rush’ times (XVIII century). The tour also includes a short journey to the borderline between Europe and Asia.
Yesterday's day-long adventure visited the capital of the powerful Demidovs Empire in the town of Nevyansk where delegates got to see the 18th century Leaning Tower featuring an amazing acoustic room and secret laboratory where they learnt some secrets of Russia’s history relating to minting counterfeit coins in Siberia and illegal gold mining. The trip also included a visit to the ancient centre of ceramics and a private ceramic workshop.
The city tour is due to take place this morning with buses leaving from the Angelo Airport Hotel at 09:00am and the Hyatt Regency at 09:30am. Spaces on this tour have been pre-booked so availability is limited.
