ROUTES AMERICAS: Nassau Airport Boss Opens 5th Routes Americas

The 5th Routes Americas opened to an interesting and serious debate on some of the key topics impacting the aviation business in the Americas region in the amazing surroundings of the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas yesterday. Despite the stunning weather and numerous activities available to guests at the resort as a potential distraction visitors enjoyed an insightful and at times humorous discussion at the Routes Americas Strategy Forum. Exploring the areas of Taxation - the real cost to the economy and the impact on the aviation industry; Airport Privatisation – short-term expectations, long-term lessons learnt from across the globe and the general state of the Americas market, delegates were provided with informed views from a distinguished panel of speakers.

The Strategy Forum proceeded the informal Welcome Reception, where delegates were able to sample some Bahamian hospitality (click here to see images from the event). Welcoming guests to the venue, Stewart Steeves, President and Chief Executive Officer of the host Nassau Airport Development Company said: “We have been planning this event for almost two years – and we trust it will be a productive and enjoyable time for everyone.”

Today, will mark the start of the formal on-to-one meetings and it is worth remembering once again the important role that air services play, particularly to Island communities such as The Bahamas and other nations across the Caribbean, a fact that Stewart Steeves highlighted perfectly last night.

“The countries of the region are heavily dependent upon tourism and nothing is more critical to success in tourism as airlift,” he said. “Airlift delivers the millions of visitors who define the tourism industry and contribute to the standard of living that sustains all of us who live and work in the region.”

I am sure the next two days will be meaningful on so many different levels!
