ROUTES AFRICA: South African Reduces Capacity to Nairobi

South African Airways (SAA) has significantly reduced capacity on its Johannesburg – Nairobi route by replacing the Airbus A340-300 that operates its link with a Boeing 737-800 on five of its flights each week. The timetable amendment was introduced on July 1. SAA competes with Kenya Airways on the route, with the latter offering more than three flights per day using single-aisle jets. An estimated 136,000 O&D passengers travelled on the route in the past year. SAA has a 37 per cent share of this market but has a much stronger yield than its rival Kenya Airways.
