Perth Airport (PER) has established itself as a critical gateway to Australia, serving as one of Australia's major capital city airports connecting business, leisure, community, event and student travelers across the country and around the world. The airport recorded a new high in 2024, handling 16.9 million passengers traveling to more than 90 destinations via over 30 airline partners.
Perth Airport’s strategic location offers airlines operational and economic advantages on routes from Australia to Asia, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Europe due to shorter flying distances. It remains the country’s only airport offering nonstop flights to London and continental Europe.
In March 2025, TransNusa entered the Australian market via Perth launching a service to Bali, which will increase to double daily operations from 18 July. Connectivity in Asia will be further strengthened with Cathay Pacific announcing double daily flights to Hong Kong from October and the return of China Southern Airlines’ service to Guangzhou in November 2025, re-establishing links with Western Australia’s fourth-largest inbound market. Virgin Australia, in partnership with Qatar Airways, launched its inaugural service between PER and Doha in June 2025.
Qantashas committed to Perth as Australia’s western gateway with non-stop flights to London Heathrow Airport (LHR), Paris and Rome. The airline will also recommence flights to Johannesburg and Auckland, boosting international access to South Africa and New Zealand from December this year. As a key member of the Qantas Group, Jetstar has also successfully introduced services from PER to Singapore, Bangkok and Phuket.
Looking ahead, PER is advancing a A$5 billion ($3.2 billion) transformation program aimed at expanding capacity and improving facilities by 2031. The development includes a new parallel runway, new terminal infrastructure, upgrades to Terminal 2, two multi-level car parks and a new on-site hotel.
The airport works closely with Tourism Western Australia to promote Perth as an attractive international destination and expand air services to the region. Together, they co-hosted Routes Asia 2025 earlier this year showcasing Perth’s growth potential to airlines and airport stakeholders from across the region.
