Norwegian is expanding its network next summer with the launch of 40 routes, including new point-to-point services between destinations outside of Scandinavia.

Nine routes are being opened from Norway, 17 from Denmark, nine from Sweden and two from Finland. The northern summer 2024 schedule will also see point-to-point flights from the LCC’s Spanish bases in Alicante and Malaga to Munich, as well as from its new base in Latvia’s capital Riga to Corfu, Greece, and Tivat, Montenegro. Norwegian originally planned to open the Riga base in summer 2023, but pushed the launch back to next year.

The summer program will in total comprise 332 routes flying to 123 destinations, and include service additions to the likes of Basel, Switzerland; Bari, Italy; Lyon and Montpellier, France; Pristina, Kosovo; and Zadar, Croatia.

From Oslo Airport, Norwegian will offer two flights per week to Basel and Lyon from June 2, followed by a weekly departure to Milas/Bodrum, Turkey, from June 4. Commencing on June 20 will be 2X-weekly service to Wroclaw, Poland, and Zadar, followed by Montpellier, France, two days later.

Two additions are being made from Sandefjord Airport Torp—a weekly flight to Palma de Mallorca, Spain, from May 3, and a 2X-weekly route to Barcelona from June 5—while Stavanger Airport will see a new 2X-weekly service to Milan Bergamo.

Elsewhere, Norwegian is to expand at both Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) and Gothenburg Landvetter Airport (GOT) in Sweden, which are operated by Swedavia. Starting from ARN on May 4, the carrier will serve Bari once a week, and Billund, Denmark, twice a week from June 19. Other new routes include a 4X-weekly GOT-London Gatwick Airport route from May 2.

“There is a great confidence in the Swedish air travel market,” says Elizabeth Axtelius, director for aviation business at Swedavia. “Our main goal is to increase the connectivity, and Norwegian’s vast network facilitates people to meet, whether it is for business, leisure or to visit family and friends.”

Also in Sweden, Norwegian will add flights to Stockholm Skavsta and Vaxjo from Palma de Mallorca, and to Vaxjo from Alicante.

Other airports to have secured new Norwegian routes include Aarhus Airport in Denmark, the host destination for Routes Europe 2024. The airline will serve the airport for the first time from March 31, flying to Alicante. Service to Malaga takes off on April 6, followed by Palma de Mallorca on May 3.

“Aarhus Airport has achieved impressive growth in recent years, and we know that these three summer destinations are among the favourites, so we are sure that they will be well received,” says Magnus Thome Maursund, chief commercial officer at Norwegian.

Copenhagen Airport will also see nine new routes, including service to Bilbao and Valencia, in Spain, and to Toulouse.
