HAWAIIAN HEADS TO KOREA

Hawaiian Airlines from January 15th 2011 launches a new four times weekly Honolulu - Seoul Incheon service with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, complementing its current codeshare partner Korean Air's ten weekly flights.

IATA BSP data shows that over 148,000 passengers have flown the Honolulu to Seoul service between June 2009-10 with Korean Air having a 59% of the Origin and Destination (O+D) market.

Copa Airlines subsidiary AeroRepublica will begin a new daily operation from the Colombian capital of Bogota to Mexico City service with Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

The regional carrier will face competition on the sector from the following carriers;

  • Avianca 14 weekly flights
  • Aeromexico 7 weekly flights

Parent company Copa also operates a daily service. IATA BSP data shows that between June 2009-10, over 109,000 O+D passengers flew the sector with Mexicana having a 46% share of the market before its recent troubles led to the oneworld member discontinuing the route.


US AIRWAYS RAMPS UP LAGUARDIA SERVICE

Star Alliance member US Airways has announced new expansion from its LaGuardia operation in New York. From this coming Winter season, October 31st, it will launch seven new routes to Asheville, Columbia SC, Greenville SC, Harrisburg, Hartford, Lexington and Washington Dulles. IATA BSP data illustrates that US Airways had a 14% share of all passenger traffic at La Guardia between June 2009-10, with Delta leading the way followed by American Airlines.

Air Canada has revealed that effective January 29th 2011 it will add a daily connection from Vancouver to Tokyo Haneda Airport. The service will be operated with B767-300 equipment. Air Canada currently serves Narita on a daily rotation with A330-300 aircraft and JAL operates Vancouver-Narita also on a daily basis with B777 equipment. JAL currently has 52% share of the O+D market from Narita.


EAGLE SWOOPS INTO PITTSBURGH

American Eagle will ramp up its existing daily service from its Miami hub to Pittsburgh, with the addition of a new daily service. The added daily rotation will be effective from November 18th. American Eagle currently operations Q400 aircraft on a route that has seen over 44,000 O+D passengers fly the route between June 2009-10 with American Airlines having a 28% share of the market.
