LCC adds new European routes

Niki, the Austrian low cost carrier and partner of Air Berlin, has unveiled plans for three new routes to commence from March 26th next year.

Niki, which is based in Vienna and was the brainchild of former F1 driver Niki Lauda, will commence new non stop scheduled services to the following cities

  • Barcelona - Daily rotation A320
  • Nice- Daily rotation A320
  • Copenhagen - 6x weekly rotation A320

The Vienna Barcelona route is already well served with Star Alliance carrier Austrian Airlines serving it on a twice daily rotation. Low cost Spanish operator Vueling Airlines serves the route on a 6x weekly flight and flag carrier Iberia on 2x weekly rotation. Niki has seen a void in the market following the demise of Sky Europe which operated the city pairs on a daily basis

Vienna Copenhagen is currently served on a 4x daily basis, and fellow LCC Norwegian operates from its newest base Copenhagen on a 3x weekly rotation.

Niki service to the Cote D'azur will face competition from Austrian Airlines serving Nice on a twice daily basis. Niki will replace the lost SkyEurope capacity on this route, the defunct carrier serving the city pairs on a 6x weekly basis.
