JAL pulls Brisbane link

Japan Airlines are to cease operating its Narita-Brisbane schedule - 24 years after it began the service.

The decision comes after the carrier's much publicised recent troubles forcing the carrier to sell 14 of its 747s. And though disapointing for Brisbane Airport Company it will not be a complete surprise, following the carrier's decision last November to reduce capacity on the route by downsizing from a 747 to a 767.

The 767 will now be allocated to another area of the JAL network as part of the restructuring that is currently being undertaken by the Japan Ministry of Transport and a consortium of banks.

Brisbane Airport now begins the task of securing a new alternative.
