Izmir Pursues Europe And Middle East Connectivity

Izmir Adnan Menderes International Airport (ADB), part of TAV Airports, serves as a key gateway to Turkey’s Aegean region.

Izmir, the country’s third most populous city, attracts millions of tourists each year with its luxury resorts, scenic beaches, and historical sites. In 2023, Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) served over 10.7 million passengers, reflecting a 9% rise in overall traffic. Notably, international passenger traffic grew by 11%, reaching 4.2 million. In the first eight months of 2024, the airport experienced a 15.2% growth in international passenger traffic.

The airport offers more than 90 direct connections through 39 airlines, including SunExpress, Pegasus Airlines, Ajet, Corendon, Jet2.com, and easyJet.

Recent route expansions have seen success in the Balkans, with new connections to cities like Pristina, Sarajevo, Podgorica, Tirana, and Tivat. Wizz Air has also launched a new seasonal service from Bucharest, operating three times a week, and British Airways' scheduled flights from London Heathrow, which was charter in 2019. Jet2.com has also expanded its summer schedule to include more flights from the UK.

In 2023, SunExpress launched new routes to Barcelona, Venice, Saarbrucken, Abu Dhabi and Samarkand while Transavia began seasonal flights to Paris-Orly.

ADB is focusing on enhancing connectivity by introducing new routes and services, having launched 10 new routes in 2023, and increasing this number to 15 by the first eight months of 2024.

Recognized for its customer service and commitment to sustainability, ADB received the ASQ (Airport Service Quality) "Best Airport" Award in both 2024 and 2022 and achieved "carbon neutral" status at level 3+ from Airport Carbon Accreditation.

As a member of Routes 360, the only digital platform dedicated to route development, ADB has uploaded multiple route opportunities to its profile to enhance connectivity across unserved routes throughout Europe and the Middle East.
