
More than 27,000 passenger flights are scheduled to operate in and out of U.S. airports on May 26 as demand for flights this Memorial Day weekend soars.
According to analysis of data provided by OAG Schedules Analyser, there will be 27,058 domestic and international flights arriving and departing U.S. airports today, making it the busiest day for air travel in more than three years.
Total capacity will also exceed 3.78 million two-way seats—the highest figure since Dec. 1, 2019.
The gallery counts down the top 10 busiest routes in the U.S. by flight frequency over the course of the Memorial Day travel period from May 25 through May 29.

10. Honolulu (HNL)-Lihue (LIH)
236 flights are scheduled on the Hawaiian route, which is served by Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

9. Atlanta (ATL)-Orlando (MCO)
There will be about 237 flights on the route, which is served Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines. Delta will operate about 60% of the flights.

8. Denver (DEN)-Las Vegas (LAS)
238 flights are scheduled during the Memorial Day weekend travel period. Southwest Airlines will operate about 114, followed by United Airlines on 70, Frontier Airlines on 44, and Spirit Airlines on 10.

7. Denver (DEN)-Phoenix (PHX)
The 966-km (521-nm) route will have 249 flights over the course of the weekend. American Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines offer service.

6. Boston Logan (BOS)-Washington Reagan National (DCA)
263 flights are scheduled to operate between the destinations. JetBlue Airways will offer about 115 flights from May 25 through May 29, followed by American Airlines on 82 and Delta Air Lines on 66.

5. New York John F. Kennedy (JFK)-Los Angeles (LAX)
The farthest route in the top 10 at 3,972 km (2,145 nm) will see about 271 flights across three carriers. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways serve the transcon route.

4. New York LaGuardia (LGA)-Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
276 flights will operate between the airports, led by United Airlines with 114 services. American Airlines will offer about 94 flights and Delta Air Lines about 68.

3. Las Vegas (LAS)-Los Angeles (LAX)
The first route with more than 300 flights between May 25 and May 29 is Las Vegas-Los Angeles with 318 services. Eight airlines will operate the route this Memorial Day weekend.

2. Honolulu (HNL)-Kahului (OGG)
The second Hawaiian route in the top 10 will see around 358 flights. Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest Airlines each operate the short 163-km (88-nm) route.

1. Los Angeles (LAX)-San Francisco (SFO)
The busiest route in the U.S. over the Memorial Day travel period is Los Angeles-San Francisco with some 362 flights. Six carriers have scheduled service this weekend, led by Alaska Airlines operating 100 flights. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines also serve the 544-km (294-nm) route.
