The $314 million new Terminal 3 has increased the total airport capacity by 6-8 million passengers annually.

Check-in area: In 2005, the airport was named after Julius Nyerere, the first president of the independent nation. Nyerere led the country from 1962 to 1985.

Like many airports, air traffic has been greatly reduced as a result of the pandemic.

Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Tanzania is not one of the largest airports in Africa, but since the opening of Terminal 3 in August 2019 and Air Tanzania’s fleet expansion with Airbus A220-300s and Boeing 787-8s, is one of the most modern aviation infrastructures in East Africa.
