EU announces new comissioners

The EU has announced a number of changes to the portfolios of Commissioners that have some bearing on the Aviation Industry, these are:

1. Current Transport and Energy Commissioner Antonio Tajani has been given the Industry and Entrepreneurship portfolio

2. Transport and Energy has been split into two portfolios:

a. The new Commissioner for Transport is Siim Kallas (Estonian), previously Commissioner for Administrative affairs, Audit and Anti-Fraud 2004-2009 and Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs before 2004

b. The new Commissioner for Energy is Gunter Oettinger (German), who was Minister President of the State of Baden Wurttemberg and replaces Gunter Verheugen as German Commissioner

3. Commissioner for Health and Consumers, Meglena Kuneva has been replaced by a Maltese Commissioner - John Dalli, who is the current Minister for Social Policy in Malta

4. Commissioner for the Environment is Janez Potocnik - Slovenian - previously Commissioner for Science and Research

5. There is a separate portfolio for "Climate Action" - the new Commissioner is Connie Hedegaard - she is currently the Danish Minister for the UN Climate Change Conference in CPH and was previously Minister for Climate and Energy
