Ethiopian Airlines Delays 777-200LR Introduction to Lagos
African carrier Ethiopian Airlines, a designate member of the Star Alliance global grouping, has deferred the proposed introduction of its long-range Boeing 777-200LR on its regional route from Addis Ababa to Lagos.
The carrier has already taken delivery of three of the five 777-200LRs it has on order, receiving its latest example in January this year. It is due to receive the first of the two remaining aircraft later this month and the last in July 2011. It had planned to use it on the African link from May 31 but according to sources this will be delayed as the company is still awaiting approval from the Nigerian Government for the capacity upgrade.
Ethiopian Airlines currently utilises a 767-300ER on the route. It is currently the only operator to provide direct services between the two cities and carried an estimated 35,000 O&D passengers in the past year
