Charlotte Douglas & Nav Canada land IATA Eagle Award

Charlotte Douglas International Airport was today recognised by IATA with an Eagle Award for Best Airport for its efforts to freeze or reduce airport fees for its airline customers.

IATA director general and CEO, Giovanni Bisignani, hailed the North American airport’s efforts in this regard during the IATA AGM taking place in Berlin, Germany.

Getting the Most Improved Airport Award was the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, which had previously come in for fierce criticism from the airline organisation. Bisignani also pointed to Airports of Thailand and King Fahd International Airport for making good progress with airline charges.

In the ANSP category, Nav Canada took home the Best ANSP Award, with Isavia from Iceland and LVNL from the Netherlands getting Most Improved Awards.

However, Bisignani also took the opportunity to lash out at 19 European ANSPs which he said had increased costs by $413 million and described South Africa’s ACSA as a “national embarrassment”.
