Avianca to increase Mexico City service
Colombian national carrier, Avianca, will introduce a second daily service from its Bogota hub to Mexico City effective July 1st. The route is currently a duopoly with Mexicana which operates an 11x weekly service with A319 equipment. Avianca operates the route with B757 equipment.
IATA BSP data shows that over 100,000 O+D pax flew the route between March 09-10, Mexicana leading the way with a 44% share of the market. However data also suggest that there is leakage on the route with Copa Airlines via Panama and Lacsa via San Jose carrying passengers.
