US major American Airline says that having received approval from both US and Brazilian authorities, it will launch 17 additional frequencies between the two countries this autumn. The carrier will introduce a second daily flight on its New York - Sao Paulo and Miami – Rio de Janeiro routes, while its daily Miami – Salvador – Recife flight will be split to provide non-stop offerings to each Brazilian destination with a five times weekly schedule.
The expanded schedule will be introduced from October 1, 2012 when the second New York – Sao Paulo rotation is launched. On November 15, 2012 the Miami – Salvador – Recife service will split into non-stop offerings, while the new Miami – Rio de Janeiro will come online from December 15, 2012. American Airlines has also reinforced that it will further strengthen capacity to Brazil in December 2012 when it introduces its new Boeing 777-300ERs on its existing Dallas/Fort Worth International – Sao Paulo route.
“Customers have told us they desire more service to South America's largest country and economy,” said Virasb Vahidi, Chief Commercial Officer, American Airlines. “Our expanded service to Brazil, along with the introduction of our Boeing 777-300ER to Sao Paulo this December, will give our customers even more travel choices to Latin America.”
The confirmation of the increased services follows just a month after American Airlines increased flights between Dallas/Fort Worth International and Sao Paulo from seven to 12 times per week and increased the frequency of its links from Miami to Brasilia and Belo Horizonte from five and three times per week, respectively, to a daily schedule. The airline also launched a new service between its Miami hub and Manaus, its seventh destination in Brazil from June 14, 2012.
As the table below shows, American Airlines is currently the largest operator between the US and Brazil by seat capacity. It currently serves the South American country from Miami to Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Manaus, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Sao Paulo; from New York to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo; and from Dallas/Fort Worth International to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
