Airport In Focus: Akureyri International Airport
Akureyri Airport, located about 2 mi. south of the town of Akureyri, is operated by Iceland’s national airport and air navigation service provider, Isavia.
The airport is served by four airlines—easyJet, Icelandair, Norlandair, and Smartwings—providing domestic flights within Iceland and international connections to London, Manchester, and Prague.
In December 2024, the airport inaugurated a new 33,000 m² terminal and airfield that will enable it to handle 500,000 additional passengers and 14 aircraft, up from five. Current passenger numbers are around 200,000 annually, with international traffic accounting for about 16% of the total.
