ASM have proudly worked with airports, airlines, tourism authorities and governments in the development of new routes since 1993.
We would like to thank everyone who has worked with ASM over the last 25 years. Your support has enabled us to assist in the introduction of new routes and the delivery of training courses around the globe as well as taking part in over 75 Routes events.
We are privileged to have been the first consultancy solely dedicated to route development, and feel honoured to have supported the growth of the aviation community over the last 25 years. In the build up to Routes Europe, we will be celebrating 25 milestone moments from the last quarter century of aviation.
- ASM is born (April 1993): Airport Strategy & Marketing (ASM) was founded in 1993 as the first route development consultancy in the world, offering expert consultancy services, data & analytics and route development training courses.
- First Boeing 777 delivered to United Airlines (15 May 1995): In May 1995, the first Boeing 777, the world’s largest long-range wide-body twinjet, was delivered to United Airlines and, later the same month, the US Federal Aviation Administration awarded 180-minute ETOPS clearance, making the 777 the first airliner to carry this rating at its entry into service. The 777 made its maiden flight in June 1994 and the first commercial flight took place on June 7 1995 from London Heathrow Airport to Dulles International Airport, near Washington DC.
- First ever Routes event (14 – 15 September 1995): With a mere 60 delegates in attendance, the first ever Routes event was held, bringing together airport, tourism authorities and airlines. The event left attendees with one question: “Why has no one done this before?” The beautiful setting of the Hotel Martinez in Cannes also helped!
- Concorde completes record breaking flight (7 February 1996): British Airways Concorde made just under 50,000 flights and flew more than 2.5m passengers supersonically. The Aircraft's four engines took advantage of what is known as ‘reheat’ technology, adding fuel to the final stage of the engine, which produced the extra power required for take-off and the transition to supersonic flight, with a take-off speed of 220 knots (250mph) and a cruising speed of 1350mph. Concorde’s fastest transatlantic crossing completed the New York to London flight in 2 hours 52 minutes and 59 seconds.
- Star Alliance formed (14 May 1997): The world’s first ever Global Alliance was created by the five founding airlines: Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways International, Air Canada, Lufthansa and United Airlines.
Routes Europe will mark the 25th Anniversary of ASM, and with your help, we plan to celebrate our birthday in style, come and visit us at our stand in Bilbao. To discuss the future of the aviation industry, visit the ASM website or email [email protected].
