Flydubai has announced a new direct passenger service between Dubai and Benghazi, marking the first nonstop route operated by a UAE carrier to the Libyan city.
The new route will begin on June 17, 2026, operating from Dubai International Airport (DXB) Terminal 3 to Benghazi Benina International Airport (BEN). Services will operate three times per week.
With the new destination, Flydubai’s network in East and North Africa will increase to 13 cities.
The airline recently started operations in Nairobi, its second point in Kenya after Mombasa, and will launch seasonal operations to Al Alamein in Egypt, beginning in June.
Flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith said the launch reflects the airline’s focus on building new air links and responding to rising travel demand.
“We have recently been scaling up our operations with a continued focus on adding new routes and frequencies. By the summer, our network is expected to grow to more than 100 destinations,” he said.
He added that the UAE aviation ecosystem is helping the airline access emerging markets such as Libya.
SVP of commercial operations Sudhir Sreedharan said Libya presents strong potential for business and trade, with demand rising ahead of peak travel periods such as Eid.
The service will operate under a codeshare arrangement with Emirates.
Data from OAG shows that Benghazi is currently served by Libyan carriers Afriqiyah Airways, Libyan Airlines, Medsky Airways, and the newly established Berniq Airways, which operates Airbus A320 aircraft and serves Dubai twice-weekly.
International carriers EgyptAir and Turkish Airlines also operate flights to the city.
Benghazi Airport is the second-largest airport in Libya, accounting for 28.3% of total seat capacity. Tripoli Mitiga Airport is the largest, with a 61.7% share.
Alongside the new Dubai–Benghazi route, Libya currently has one additional direct connection to the UAE, operated by Fly Oya between Mitiga Airport and Dubai.
