African aviation unites for wildlife

The African transport and aviation industries have come together to create the Declaration of the United for Wildlife International Taskforce on the Transportation of Illegal Wildlife Products.

The declaration consisted of agreeing on information sharing, staff training, technological improvements, and resource sharing with the aim of preventing traffickers from getting wildlife to prospective buyers.
“The declaration reinforces the policies and procedures we already have in place, and commits us to continue raising awareness of the impact of trophy hunting and taking action to stop it,” said Alison Webster, executive manager, Qantas Freight and Qantas Catering Group.
International Air Transport Association (IATA) is one of 40 signatories to the declaration.
“Today marks a step forward for environmental protection — a commitment that we take very seriously. We will collaborate in support of government enforcement authorities to put an end to this evil trade,” said Tony Tyler, chief executive, IATA.
