AFFRA: Angola recognised for progressive aviation approach
The Angolan government received an award from AFRAA as a “Supplier of the Year” in a special presentation at the association's general assembly near Mombasa this morning.
The Angolans won the award for its work on pushing down fuel costs on a three step approach to aid the aviation industry recognising that air transport is the key to international relations as well as for taking a dynamic approach to its aviation restructuring plan.
According to IATA the reduction of fuel fees has resulted in $109.6 million in savings for airlines operating to the country. This is seen as being the first step in a long-term campaign to tackle the relatively high price of fuel in parts of Africa.
Accepting the award from IATA’s CEO Tony Tyler was the country’s minister of transport Augusto da Silva Tomás who said: “ It is a great honour. We have carried out some great projects this year in Angola. We are in the process of restructuring the aviation industry in our country, we have the modernisation of Luanda for 15million passengers, we are reforming our legal sector to meet ICAO and EU requirements.
“We have adopted a major plan for the sector for the next four years, this includes restructuring our national airline TAAG, as well as our civil aviation authority and the national airports company. Training of our human capital is a key part of this reorganisation and essential for the growth aviation sector in our country,” the minister said.
