Aero Contractors begins downsizing staff
Aero Contractors has started downsizing its workforce in order to remain financially competitive.
Managing director, Captain Fola Akinkuotu, told a press conference that the carrier did not renew the contracts of 100 temporary support employees.
“Those laid off were not staff of our airline. I can tell you that our staff are intact and we don’t have the plans to retrench workers. We didn’t have the need of those outsourced and we felt they should be withdrawn from our services," said Akinkuotu.
The carrier is suffering from a leadership crisis, with its majority shareholder, the Asset Management Company of Nigeria, firing the carrier’s entire board in February.
Akinkuotu and his team have been appointed to oversee the carrier’s restructuring.
