Adelaide Airport's Network Vision 2050

Adelaide Airport has continued its strong post-pandemic recovery. For the 12 months ending June 2023, Adelaide Airport had over 7.7 million passengers travelling through the terminal which equates to 91% of pre-pandemic volumes.

Further highlighting the strong return of travel demand to and from Adelaide, the recent quarter ending June 2023, saw overall traffic rebound to 97% of pre-pandemic volumes and was supported by a strong return of both domestic and international travel.

In the domestic space, traffic volumes have rebounded to pre-pandemic volumes as a result of increased capacity from domestic carriers such as Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia. Adelaide is now in the phase of growth, with REX introducing daily flights between Adelaide and Brisbane, on the back of its recently introduced services to Sydney and Melbourne.

The continuous growth trajectory of international traffic demand in Adelaide has resulted in Singapore Airlines up-gauging from an A350MH aircraft to the Dreamliner aircraft (+34 seats per flight) from the start of Northern Winter 2023, Qatar Airways up-gauging from the A350 to the B777 aircraft (+71 seats per flight) from the beginning of Northern Winter 2023, and Batik Air Indonesia introducing non-stop flights to Bali (from first week of November 2023).

Other international carriers in Adelaide such as Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Air New Zealand, Fiji Airways, Jetstar (Bali) and Virgin Australia (Bali) have also contributed to the strong international traffic recovery for Adelaide.

Adelaide Airport’s current priority is to rebuild the pre-COVID international network, working with Emirates, China Southern Airlines and Cathay Pacific towards a timeline for the return of these services. In addition, Adelaide Airport continues to proactively engage with new prospect carriers to introduce flights to Adelaide. When materialised, this will drive further growth to Adelaide.

By 2050, Adelaide Airport has set its target to operate direct flights to 39 global cities (Network Vision 2050). These targeted non-stop flights will come in phases and in its first phase (by 2030), Adelaide Airport’s Network Vision aims to introduce flights to Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, and US, among others.

Adelaide Airport continues to live by its broader vision which is to be Everyone’s favourite airport while ensuring that the airport continues to connect people and businesses through its philosophy – Seamless, Connected, Easy.
