In Brief: Rafael Tests Longer-Range Spyder Air Defense Interceptors

Spyder Tests
Rafael has undertaken intercept trials of two new versions of its Spyder air defense system intended to engage targets at longer ranges. The trials, carried out this month, involved the 40-km-range (25-mi.) Spyder ER using the I-Derby ER interceptor and the 80-km-range Spyder LR using the booster-powered, two-pulse I-Derby LR. Both executed hit-to-kill intercepts of their targets. Rafael, in a statement, said the interceptors engaged different types of threats, including low-radar-signature drones. The system upgrades reflect recent experiences in combat, the state-owned arms maker said.
