Arming Heron
After years of back-and-forth, German legislators have approved funding to arm the country’s Israel Aerospace Industries Heron TP medium-altitude, long-endurance drones. Lawmakers gave the green light Nov. 4 as they signed off on a half-dozen defense procurement initiatives, each with a value of more than €25 million ($28 million). They also supported funding for radar-processor and power-supply upgrades for the Eurofighter Common Radar System Mk 1. The upgrades are intended to support German and Spanish Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche aircraft, the German Defense Ministry said. The new components will boost performance of the active electronically scanned array radar across the board, it added.
