Oman Air wins top honour at KLIA Awards

Oman Air has beaten two other newcomer airlines to win the much-coveted “Promising New Foreign Airline of the Year” award in the sixth edition of Malaysia's KLIA Annual Award. Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAB) honoured Oman Air for its exceptional performance during 2010, a year in which three new airlines were welcomed to Malaysia.

All three – Oman Air, Royal Jordanian and Mahan Air - were contenders for the award, with the latter two contesting the award, but it was Oman Air that came out top.

This achievement follows a year in which Oman Air worked closely with KLIA to clearly distinguish both the airline and Malaysia from their competitors, raise awareness of Malaysia as a desirable aviation and tourism destination and build KLIA’s reputation for service excellence.

Oman Air’s Chief Officer, Corporate Affairs, Philippe Georgiou commented:

“Oman Air is honoured to receive this award and we view it as recognition of the dedication and creativity of Oman Air’s team, who were determined to build and strengthen links between the deserts of Oman and the lush greenery of South East Asia. We are also particularly pleased that the award has coincided with the centenary celebrations of Malaysia’s involvement in the aviation industry and Oman Air is proud to have played a part in this element of the nation’s history.”

He continued:

“Malaysia’s aviation industry is undergoing rapid growth and the country has become an important air transport hub for South East Asia and beyond. KLIA’s passenger movements continue to indicate growth that outpaces its closest rivals. As the momentum continues, Malaysia is on its way to becoming a prominent hub in the region and Oman Air too is poised to increase its share of the Malaysian and South East Asian aviation market. This latest award will help Oman Air to continue its mission to deliver excellence in aviation and a seamless passenger experience for all its customers.”

The award was presented to Kathleen Leong, Oman Air District Sales Manager in Malaysia who has been instrumental in spearheading Oman Air’s services to Malaysia. Accepting the award, she commented:

“Together with the Oman Air team in Muscat, we have had a hugely positive impact on the Malaysian landscape by encouraging visitors from Oman to discover Malaysia, and visitors from Malaysia to discover Oman. This win will be the catalyst for even greater momentum in the years ahead
