Libya open to doing business with all international partners

The Libyan deputy minister of higher education and scientific research, H.E. Prof. Fathi Al Akkari said his country was open to doing business with all international partners.

Al Akkari said: “Libya needs everything. There is huge demand for goods, services and know-how from all sectors of the economy and Libya welcomes all to support its rebuilding efforts.”

H.E. Prof. Al Akkari was speaking at the “Future Libya Development Forum 2012: Infrastructure & Rebuild” conference that ended in Dubai on Thursday. The two-day event was held under the patronage of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

In a keynote address on the opening day, H.E. Atiq Juma Nassib, Senior Director of Commercial Services Sector, Dubai Chamber, said the Libyan people had to demonstrate their commitment through a safe economic climate, transparent administration, flexible legislation and an open leadership, for foreign companies to join in the rebuilding effort.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has stressed on the importance of Libya, and companies from Dubai and the UAE could benefit from the “anticipated rebound in economic activity that will offer investment opportunities in banking, construction, tourism, telecommunications, oil & gas, and trade in consumer goods and building materials.”

“Libya is potentially important for companies in Dubai and the UAE as it offers fantastic opportunities. But it is not an easy market. Every sector needs investment and offers business opportunities,” said Dr Charles Gurdon, conference speaker and Managing Director, Menas Associates, UK.

The the next “Future Libya Development Forum Conference and Exhibition” will take place in the Libyan capital, Tripoli in March 2013.
