National Academies Panel Urges NNSA Design Competitions

A National Academies panel is recommending the National Nuclear Security Administration develop a series of design competitions “that integrate the full end-to-end design process from novel design conception through production and non-nuclear testing of an engineered prototype,” to preserve the nation’s nuclear weapon design skills and help maintain a credible deterrent in the absence of nuclear testing.
