Every so often, someone comes along ready to change the world. The Aviation Week Network each year searches for undergraduate and master’s degree students who are on track to do that, working to solve challenges within the aerospace and defense industry. A judging panel composed of hiring managers, engineers and academics evaluates and scores nominees based on academic performance, civic contribution and the value of each student’s research or design project. The Aviation Week Network and partners Accenture, Hexcel (premier sponsor) and The Boeing Co. (sponsor) have discovered 20 students who embody these traits and are on a course to change the future of aerospace and defense. Nominated by their universities, the honorees were selected from an international field of highly qualified students. This year’s honorees are top-ranked in academics, have articulated the value of their research and design projects, and have an established record for giving back to their communities. This year, students were nominated from 26 universities representing five countries, and there was an equal number of women and men with highly diverse cultural and demographic backgrounds. They all represent the future of aerospace and defense.
