The Lilium Jet’s measures 14m in width, according to Lilium's website, which adds: "The jet fits perfectly into existing heliports or landing spots."

Targeting The Premium Market

Standing beside a full-scale mockup of a premium-edition Lilium Jet at the European Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition, Chief Commercial Officer Sebastien Borel said that targeting the premium market will allow the German startup to market its Lilium Jet as a quieter and more efficient replacement to on-demand helicopter services that cater to wealthier and business flyers.

The jet has 30 battery-electric motors within the main wings and canards' flaps—the only moving exterior parts.

Enhancing Aerodynamics

These flaps tilt downwards during hover and align flush once in cruise, enhancing aerodynamics and allowing seamless operation between the airframe and powerplant.

Vertiports

Chief Commercial Officer Sebastien Borel emphasized how focusing on the premium market early on will allow Lilium to avoid the need for widescale deployment of infrastructure, including dedicated vertiports, that will be required to accommodate the mass commercial market.

Economically Charging

The Lilium Jet uses an industry-standard CCS charger. The charging port located to the right of the front landing gear. The website says that a typical charging session lasts about 45 minutes. "Once fully charged, the jet is designed to handle long-range missions at a cruising speed of 248 km/h (154 mph), achieving a maximum operational range of up to 175 km (109 miles)."

Aerodynamics

The Lilium Jet delivers a high lift-to-drag (L/D) ratio which according to the website, is "akin to airliners at 35,000 ft."

Lilium unveiled its Lilium Jet model at Stand A39, EBACE 2024, in the exhibition hall at Palexpo, Geneva's convention center.

The company showcased the Lilium Jet charging infrastructure and an immersive flight simulator feature for visitors.

Sebastien Borel, CCO of Lilium, said: “We are delighted to return to EBACE this year; a year that represents a major milestone for Lilium as we gear up for the first piloted flight of the Lilium Jet targeted for the end of the year. Consequently, it is fitting that we are returning to EBACE in a very big way, with our largest presence at the show to date as we make the inaugural public debut of the full-scale Lilium Jet model.”
