He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Airbus has reached an agreement with Pratt & Whitney on engine performance improvements that will lead to further fuel burn reduction of the PW1100G over time. The upgrades to the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G will reduce fuel burn of the Airbus A320neo to around 18% compared to the current model. The performance improvement package for the geared turbofan engine is set to be available by 2019, according to commitments made by the engine consortium. But it could be ready for introduction in 2018.
Airbus A380 launch operator Singapore Airlines (SIA) is pushing hard for improvements to its biggest long-haul aircraft. While the aircraft “is performing according to what it was supposed to do on the main hub missions, the world has changed since it was launched,” Singapore Airlines Executive Vice President Commercial Mak Swee Wah tells Aviation Week.
